October is a month of awareness: for health, for financial wellness, and for the people we serve every day.
As we recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Financial Planning Month, it’s a great reminder that planning ahead isn’t just about money, it’s about protecting the people and moments that matter most.
Whether through life insurance with living benefits, long-term care solutions, or business continuation strategies, KAFL is here to help you support your clients’ futures, in every season of life.
🎀Breast Cancer Awareness Month:
Protection in All Forms
Every October, we’re reminded how vital proactive planning can be — for health, family, and finances alike.
When illness strikes, access to funds can ease emotional and financial stress. Life insurance policies with living benefit riders, such as chronic or critical illness coverage, can give clients the ability to tap into their policy during treatment or recovery. These benefits can help cover medical expenses, household costs, or lost income — providing security and flexibility when it matters most.
We’re excited to introduce our new Impaired Risk page, created to help you serve every client with confidence, even in the most challenging cases. This page provides quick access to underwriting tools, resources, and guidance designed to simplify impaired risk scenarios and help you find the right fit for your clients’ needs.
No matter how complex the case, KAFL is here to help you every step of the way.
As most beneficiaries throughout the Rochester region are losing their MAPD plans heading into 2026, it’s important to remember that plan termination creates a Special Election Period (SEP). That means impacted beneficiaries have until 12/31/25 to enroll in a new plan with a 1/1/26 effective date. Beneficiaries who aren’t impacted have until the end of the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) to make changes heading into 2026, and AEP runs from 10/15 – 12/7.
Please let us know if you or any of your clients have questions or need help, and we’d be happy to make an introduction to a licensed broker who can assist with plan selection.
Keep an eye out for emails from your Employee Benefits (EB) team — 2026 Open Enrollment information has officially started going out! Be sure to review the materials as they arrive, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your Account Manager with any questions or support needs.

Breast Cancer Awareness in Life Insurance
In the United States alone, 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. In 2025, an estimated 316,950 women and 2,800 men will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer, with roughly 42,170 of these women projected to die from it. With being the most common type of cancer among women, having life insurance in place can offer security, protection, and a peace of mind your clients deserve.
With advancements in underwriting and crediting programs, life insurance companies have made significant improvements in their ability to provide coverage for survivors and those at risk due to family history, genetics, environmental factors, and/or social habits.
When meeting with survivors or those a higher risk of developing breast cancer, prescreening is key for determining the best coverage for your clients.
Please ensure you’re asking the following field underwriting questions:
Date of diagnosis/last treatment
Family history
Staging
Treatment
Recurrence
Depending on age, proper surveillance and appropriate preventative therapies (mastectomy, oophorectomy, hormones) coverage can be obtained. Clients who do not take proper measures, utilize preventative treatment options, or are not under surveillance by a licensed physician will not be offered coverage.
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness month, now is the time to bring awareness to the importance of life insurance, especially for those with cancer histories or risk factors.
Your Team at KAFL is happy to assist you with prescreening your clients to determine which carrier and product would be most cost-effective for their health, and most beneficial for their overall financial portfolio. Please contact your Sales Partner, Case Manager, or email newbusiness@kafl.com to learn more.
KAFL Spotlight
Our New Business team recently swapped desks for a change of scenery, spending a few days working together from a local coffee shop. The in-person time was a great way to connect, collaborate, and bounce ideas off each other outside the office.
The team capped things off with dinner and a few rounds of duckpin bowling — a little friendly competition and a lot of laughs!
We’re incredibly thankful for our New Business team and all they do to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. Their attention to detail, dedication to our advisors, and commitment to top-tier service make all the difference every day.
Big Congratulations to Sarah Myers!
Join us in celebrating Sarah Myers, who recently passed her Life Insurance License exam! We’re thrilled to see her hard work pay off and can’t wait to see all she accomplishes in this next chapter.
